MIRPUR (AJK), July 30: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Azad Jammu and Kashmir State Branch and the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) have agreed to enhance cooperation in humanitarian services, volunteerism, disaster risk reduction, first aid training, climate change adaptation and youth engagement.

The understanding was reached during a meeting held at UAJK, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Jamal Khattak. Senior officials from both institutions participated in the session.

PRCS AJK State Branch Secretary Ms. Gulzar Fatima said partnerships with educational institutions are vital for developing resilient and compassionate communities. She expressed confidence that cooperation with UAJK would encourage youth participation, provide life-saving skills and create opportunities in disaster preparedness and humanitarian activities.

She recalled that both institutions had previously signed agreements in climate change and other areas, stressing the need to further strengthen collaboration.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Jamal Khattak appreciated the humanitarian role of PRCS and reaffirmed UAJK’s commitment to expanding cooperation in youth training, research, capacity building and promotion of humanitarian values.

The meeting discussed joint programmes related to youth development, volunteer training, disaster risk reduction, first aid education, climate resilience and community support initiatives.

During the session, Mr. Naveed Akhtar Awan gave a detailed presentation on PRCS, highlighting its humanitarian mission, disaster response capabilities, community resilience programmes and achievements.

The PRCS delegation was led by Ms. Gulzar Fatima and included senior officials, while UAJK representatives included directors and university officers.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative shields between Ms. Gulzar Fatima and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Jamal Khattak. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to implementing joint initiatives for youth empowerment, volunteerism and stronger humanitarian services across Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
