MIRPUR (AJK): Aug. 7: Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AJKCCI) President Umar Shehzad Jarral has strongly condemned India’s August 5, 2019, decision to revoke the special status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), describing it as a blatant violation of United Nations resolutions and international law.
Speaking to newsmen, Jarral said Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory whose status cannot be altered through any unilateral action by India. He maintained that the Kashmiri people’s internationally recognized right to self-determination cannot be denied through coercive measures or unconstitutional actions.
He said August 5 is observed as a “Black Day” by the people of Kashmir, marking what he termed India’s illegal attempt to abolish the region’s special status. He added that the move has neither gained legal legitimacy nor weakened the determination of the Kashmiri people to continue their struggle for self-determination.
Jarral urged the international community, the United Nations, and global human rights organizations to play an effective role in preventing human rights violations in the region. He called for practical measures to ensure the people of Jammu and Kashmir are granted their right to self-determination in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.
Reaffirming the chamber’s position, Jarral said the AJK Chamber of Commerce and Industry would continue supporting the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and consistently reject India’s August 5, 2019, actions.
