The Secretary General of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI), Sultan bin Hassan Al-Jamali, commended the Oman Human Rights Committee for its exemplary efforts in upholding international and ANNHRI standards. His remarks were made during a session of the Charter Committee at the League of Arab States in Cairo.

Al-Jamali emphasized that Oman’s first human rights report reflects collaborative efforts among Omani institutions, particularly the Omani Human Rights Commission. He acknowledged the committee’s role as a national platform dedicated to promoting, protecting, and advancing human rights within Omani society.

The committee has made significant strides in fostering a culture of human rights and aligning its practices with both national laws and international standards. Al-Jamali highlighted the importance of cooperation with national human rights institutions adhering to the Paris Principles of 1993.

He also noted the committee’s active engagement with the Charter Committee during its visit to Oman, where it reviewed legislative, institutional, and policy developments. The Omani Committee’s submission of a parallel report, rooted in objective data and comprehensive monitoring, was praised for its independence and credibility.

Beyond Oman, Al-Jamali underscored ANNHRI’s regional efforts, particularly its support for the Independent Commission for Human Rights in Palestine. He condemned Israeli actions in Gaza, labeling them as genocide, and called for accountability through international mechanisms such as the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court.

Al-Jamali reaffirmed the Network’s commitment to strengthening human rights across the Arab region through collaboration, knowledge exchange, and unified efforts to address pressing challenges.
