The State of Qatar, speaking on behalf of the Arab Group, renewed firm support for Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity, rejecting external interference and any attempts to undermine its security and stability.

New York, August 28 (QNA): The Arab Group reaffirmed that Syria’s unity and stability are essential pillars of regional security and called for greater international support to help the country recover, rebuild and restore stability.
The position was outlined in a statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani during the UN Security Council’s monthly briefing on the situation in the Middle East and Syria.
She said the Arab Group commends steps taken by the Syrian government to extend state authority across the country, advance transitional justice and accountability, address the issue of missing persons and create conditions for the return of refugees and displaced persons.
The Group called for increased international assistance and investment, as well as stronger economic cooperation, to support Syria’s recovery and reconstruction. It stressed the importance of creating conditions for the safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable return of refugees, including through improved services, infrastructure, livelihoods and mine clearance.
She also highlighted the need to remove remaining obstacles to Syria’s economic recovery and international integration.
The Arab Group praised countries hosting Syrian refugees and urged the international community to increase support, saying these countries cannot continue to bear the burden alone until refugees are able to return to their homeland.
The statement also welcomed growing cooperation between the Syrian government and the United Nations, including recent visits to Syria by the UN Secretary-General and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons was also noted.
The Arab Group condemned bombings in Damascus and its countryside and all criminal acts threatening security and stability. It commended Syrian government measures to counter such threats, combat terrorism and maintain security.
She said the Group welcomed the US announcement removing Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism, describing the move as a positive development supporting stability in Syria and the wider region.
The Arab Group strongly condemned Israeli airstrikes targeting Abu Al Duhur military airport in northwestern Syria, describing them as a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty, security, stability and territorial integrity.
It warned that continued targeting of Syrian territory and infrastructure could undermine efforts to restore security, rebuild national institutions and address the humanitarian consequences of years of conflict.
The Group called on the international community to take a firm position against ongoing violations and take concrete steps to ensure respect for international law, the UN Charter and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, while securing the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas.
It reaffirmed that the Golan Heights are occupied Arab territory and that Israel’s imposition of its laws and administration there is null and void.
In conclusion, the Arab Group reaffirmed its support for Syria and its people in building a stable and prosperous state based on justice, equality, the rule of law and the rights of all Syrians.
