Armenia and the European Union (EU) signed a major connectivity partnership agreement and pledged to deepen cooperation in economic and security sectors during their first-ever summit held on Tuesday, according to local media reports.
The signing was witnessed by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President Antonio Costa, marking a significant milestone in Armenia–EU relations.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described the initiative on social media platform X as a transformative step that could turn Armenia into a strategic hub connecting Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia. She said the partnership would strengthen cooperation across transport, energy, and digital networks.
The agreement aligns with the EU’s Cross-Regional Connectivity Agenda and Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative, aiming to enhance regional integration and infrastructure development.
Both sides also agreed to launch a high-level dialogue on connectivity along with a separate transport-focused dialogue mechanism to institutionalize long-term cooperation.
Officials said the deal reflects a shared commitment to expanding sustainable infrastructure, improving regional connectivity, and boosting economic opportunities through closer integration between Armenia and the European Union.
