MIRPUR (AJK), May 15 — Kashmir-origin Lord Mayor of Birmingham City Council Councillor Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry visited the NGO-run Free Kidney Dialysis Centre at the Divisional Headquarters Teaching Hospital Mirpur, officials said on Thursday.
During his visit, the Lord Mayor inspected various sections of the centre to review medical facilities, modern dialysis machinery, patient care services, and administrative arrangements. He also met patients individually undergoing treatment, inquired about their health conditions, and appreciated their courage and resilience during long-term care.
Councillor Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry held a detailed meeting with President Anjuman Falah-o-Behbud Insaniyat Mirpur Dr. Tahir Mahmood, where matters relating to overseas community cooperation, healthcare initiatives, and social welfare projects were discussed. He expressed satisfaction over the free treatment services being provided to kidney patients and praised the organization’s commitment to humanitarian service.
The Lord Mayor assured full support for strengthening collaboration between overseas Kashmiri communities and local welfare institutions. He commended the transparent management and consistent delivery of free dialysis services to underprivileged patients.
Prominent British social and business figures, including Chaudhry Matlab Hussain, Rajab Matlab Chaudhry, journalist and social worker Sajid Yousuf, and Chaudhry Pervez Akhtar, accompanied the delegation during the visit.
The visiting delegation also appreciated the ongoing welfare efforts of Anjuman Falah-o-Behbud Insaniyat Mirpur, describing its services as an exemplary model of social care. Earlier, Dr. Tahir Mahmood, along with Farzana Nawaz Raja, Hafsa Bari, Admin Officer Munir Abdul Majid, and Jahangir Mughal, briefed the delegation on the centre’s operations and services for economically disadvantaged patients.
Dr. Tahir Mahmood highlighted that the organization is actively engaged in health, education, and social welfare projects, with the Free Kidney Dialysis Centre benefiting dozens of patients daily. He said these initiatives are made possible through the support of philanthropists, overseas Kashmiris, and social contributors.
The delegation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening engagement with overseas communities to further expand humanitarian healthcare services for patients in need.
