ADDIS ABABA, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) — The 2025 China-Ethiopia Industry Matchmaking Event was held Thursday in Addis Ababa to strengthen industrial cooperation and enhance policy coordination among China, Ethiopia, and other BRICS member states.
Zhuang Rongliang, vice mayor of southeast China’s Xiamen City and director-general of the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center (PartNIR Innovation Center), highlighted growing trade exchanges between Xiamen and Ethiopia. He noted that the BRICS freight air route connecting Xiamen, Addis Ababa, and São Paulo has completed 598 flights since its launch two years ago, facilitating imports and exports worth 750 million U.S. dollars.
Zhuang stressed the importance of the matchmaking event in aligning industries and fostering collaboration, urging governments and enterprises to deepen policy coordination to accelerate the industrial revolution across BRICS countries.
Ethiopia’s State Minister of Industry, Tarekegn Bululta, emphasized that partnerships with Chinese companies would accelerate project execution, lower risks, and create opportunities for Ethiopian talent. He invited Chinese investors to engage in priority sectors to help Ethiopia realize its ambition of becoming Africa’s leading manufacturing hub.
Liu Xiaoguang, minister counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, noted that both nations are working together on agriculture, manufacturing, mining, digitalization, green development, and capacity building. He said the event would promote knowledge exchange, strengthen industrial synergy, and support Ethiopia’s bid to join the World Trade Organization.
The event concluded with a cooperation agreement signed between the BRICS PartNIR Innovation Center and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation to explore a platform enabling Chinese and BRICS enterprises to expand into Ethiopia’s growing market.
