BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Tuesday that Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China further consolidated and elevated the special friendship between the two countries through high-level strategic engagement.
She said head-of-state diplomacy continues to guide bilateral relations, underscoring the strategic importance of China-Pakistan ties and long-term cooperation.
President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Sharif agreed to deepen the strategic cooperative partnership and accelerate building a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future, while firmly supporting each other on core interests.
Mao noted that pragmatic cooperation remains the foundation of the relationship, reflecting the mutually beneficial nature and expanding development agenda across multiple sectors.
Both leaders agreed to advance the Action Plan for a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future and accelerate work on the upgraded Version 2.0 of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
They agreed to promote a modernised free trade agreement and expand cooperation in artificial intelligence, the digital economy, agriculture, science and technology, and human resource development.
According to Mao, several cooperation documents were signed covering trade, economy, agriculture, science, and technical collaboration, strengthening institutional linkages between the two countries.
She added that international coordination has further enriched bilateral ties, with Pakistan supporting China’s four propositions on the Middle East situation, while China appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement for regional peace efforts.
Both sides reaffirmed commitment to uphold World War II outcomes, oppose the resurgence of fascism or militarism, and safeguard the postwar international order, global peace, and international justice.
