MOGADISHU, April 24 — China and Somalia have inaugurated a new research centre in Mogadishu aimed at strengthening knowledge exchange and joint policy studies on Chinese modernization.
The “Center for Research on Chinese Modernization” was launched on Wednesday at the Diplomatic Institute under Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. It is designed to enhance Somalia’s institutional capacity through advanced policy research and specialised training for diplomats.
The ceremony was jointly presided over by Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu and Permanent Secretary of Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hamza Haadow, along with senior officials from both sides.
Ambassador Wang congratulated Somalia on the establishment of the centre and outlined key features of Chinese modernization, along with priorities under China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. He reaffirmed China’s readiness to work with Somalia to implement outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Beijing Summit, share governance experience, and support broader modernization efforts across the Global South.
Haadow described the centre as a milestone in Somalia-China relations and a platform for strengthening mutual understanding and institutional exchange. He said the Ministry will support its sustainable operation to promote continuous learning and deeper bilateral cooperation.
The establishment reflects growing cooperation between Somalia and China in governance, training, and development-focused policy research, marking another step in expanding strategic engagement between the two countries.
