MIRPUR (AJK), May 15 — Civil society elders from adjoining Islamgarh strongly condemned the recent alleged police violence against a local medical college student in Sector F/2 Mirpur and demanded the immediate arrest of all policemen involved, including a sub-inspector, within the next 24 hours.
Addressing journalists at Kashmir Press Club after meeting senior police officials on Friday, former Administrator District Council Mirpur Lala Abdul Malik, Chairman Municipal Committee Islamgarh Ahsan Shoaib Advocate, and Chairman Union Council Potha Bensi Hamza Iqbal warned of an indefinite blockade of the Islamgarh-Mirpur Road if their demands were not met within the stipulated period.
The protesting leaders rejected the decision to complete an inquiry within five days, stating that dismissal of the accused policemen without registration of a criminal case amounted to relief for the suspects. They alleged that Constable Faheem was a central figure in the incident and demanded his immediate arrest.
The delegation included Vice Chairman Union Council Potha Bensi Abrar Lal, Vice Chairman Municipal Committee Islamgarh Ishaq Mughal, Senior Vice President PML-N District Mirpur Councillor Ilyas Rajput, Councillor Raja Tanveer, Councillor Raja Akhtar Mahmood, Councillor Abdul Qayyum Khan, Councillor Sufyan Rathore, and others.
The speakers described the alleged violence against the medical student as deeply regrettable and said such incidents spread fear and insecurity among the public, particularly the younger generation, in the otherwise peaceful region of Azad Jammu Kashmir.
They demanded immediate legal action against all police officials and individuals in plain clothes allegedly involved in the incident, warning that failure to provide justice would trigger widespread protests across Azad Jammu Kashmir.
