MIRPUR (AJK), April 20 — Deputy Commissioner Chaudhry Sajid Hussain on Wednesday directed the State Electricity Department to ensure uninterrupted power supply across the district, especially amid increasing disruptions caused by an intense heat wave. He emphasized that restoring and maintaining a stable electricity supply should be treated as a top priority for public convenience during the ongoing hot weather conditions.
Chairing a meeting with senior officials of the Electricity Department, including Executive Engineer Arshad Mahmood Chauhan and Sub-Divisional Officers Sardar Muhammad Ali and Haroon Ramzan Chughtai, the DC reviewed the overall power situation and system constraints. He instructed the department to avoid overloading the system immediately after outages and to adopt preventive measures for smoother restoration of electricity services.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed the launch of a public awareness campaign urging consumers to avoid unnecessary electricity usage. He advised citizens to switch on air conditioners and other heavy appliances only after a 15-minute interval following power restoration and to minimize non-essential lighting in homes, shops, and commercial areas. He further discouraged the use of electric heaters for cooking purposes to reduce load pressure on the system. He also stressed the need for improved coordination between field teams and control rooms to ensure faster response times during faults and breakdowns.
Electricity Department officials briefed the meeting that staff were working round the clock to ensure continuous power supply and that breakdowns in transformers and transmission lines were being repaired on an emergency basis. Executive Engineer Arshad Mahmood Chauhan said the department was also taking action against power pilferage and excessive consumption to stabilize the system.
He appealed to consumers to cooperate with the department in controlling unnecessary usage to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across the district during the ongoing summer season.
