Pyongyang, August 27: The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has vowed a “powerful response” to what it described as hostile U.S. actions that are worsening its security environment and regional tensions, state media reported Thursday.
A DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesperson criticized the U.S. decision to sell advanced tactical missiles and related equipment worth $125 million to the Republic of Korea, according to the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
The spokesperson also condemned Washington’s plan to allocate millions of dollars to what Pyongyang described as a campaign focused on the DPRK’s human rights situation, saying it was aimed at gathering information and creating conditions to undermine the country’s political stability.
“The DPRK is well aware” of what it called continuing outside threats to its security and stability and will deliver a “serious, immediate and powerful response” to hostile acts in different areas, the spokesperson said.
The statement underscores renewed tensions on the Korean Peninsula as Pyongyang reacts strongly to recent U.S. military and policy decisions.
