Türkiye hopes that the upcoming decisions by several countries to recognize the State of Palestine will help accelerate the implementation of a two-state solution, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters in Istanbul before departing for the UN General Assembly (UNGA) summit in New York, Erdogan underlined that what makes this year’s session distinct from previous ones is that many nations are expected to officially recognize Palestine.
Commenting on the attendance of Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa at the General Assembly, Erdogan stressed that Türkiye will not abandon Damascus, pledging that Ankara will continue to use all means at its disposal to support and strengthen its neighbor.
He added that he would also meet with President Sharaa at the Turkevi Center, or Turkish House, in New York during the General Assembly.
