ANKARA, Aug. 12: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday that supporting Palestine is a shared responsibility of all humanity, particularly the Muslim world, reaffirming Türkiye’s strong backing for the Palestinian cause.
Speaking at a joint news conference with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the presidential palace in Ankara, Erdogan said Türkiye would continue defending Palestinian rights and statehood on every international platform.
He condemned Israel’s ongoing actions in the occupied West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem, warning that the existence of a sovereign Palestinian state is being undermined before the eyes of the international community.
Erdogan also called for urgent steps to create conditions for the reconstruction and rebuilding of Gaza and to ensure lasting security for its population.
He strongly rejected provocations aimed at changing the status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque and other Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Reiterating Ankara’s support for Palestinian statehood, Erdogan said Türkiye would continue working for the establishment of an independent and geographically contiguous Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with occupied East Jerusalem as its capital.
