ROME: A severe heatwave has affected several European countries, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius and authorities issuing health warnings across affected regions.
Italy placed major cities under high heat alerts, while several countries reported record temperatures. The extreme weather has also worsened drought conditions and affected transport, energy supplies and water resources.
France, Spain and other European nations have faced increased wildfire risks, while low water levels in rivers have disrupted some industrial and transport activities.
Officials and climate experts have warned that rising temperatures are increasing pressure on public services and highlighting the need for stronger climate adaptation measures across Europe. Authorities have urged residents to take precautions as the heatwave continues to impact daily life, agriculture and emergency services in affected areas.
The prolonged heat has also raised concerns over increasing healthcare pressure, crop losses and greater demand on energy systems due to higher cooling needs. European governments are reviewing emergency measures to protect vulnerable communities and improve preparedness for extreme weather events.
