SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 30 — A tragic shooting at a family gathering in Stockton, northern California, left at least four people dead and ten others injured on Saturday evening, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. Pacific Time (0200 GMT Sunday) during what officials confirmed was a child’s birthday celebration inside an ice cream shop. Victims included both juveniles and adults, said Heather Brent, spokesperson for the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.
No arrests have been made, and the suspect remains at large. In a brief statement on social media, the Sheriff’s Office said early indications suggest the attack may have been targeted, though investigators are examining all possibilities.
Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee described the event as a “mass shooting,” noting the community’s shock at violence erupting in a family-oriented setting. Authorities have yet to release any details on the suspect’s identity or motive, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has been briefed on the incident as investigators continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
