BEIJING: Leading German automakers, including Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, are intensifying their focus on China’s booming new energy vehicle (NEV) market, unveiling advanced electric models and technologies at the 2026 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.
In collaboration with major Chinese partners such as FAW Group and SAIC Motor, the companies are expanding their electrification strategies and local production capabilities. Audi highlighted its electric lineup, including the A6L e-tron and Q6L e-tron, produced at its dedicated NEV facility in Changchun.
The German brands are also strengthening ties with Chinese technology firms. Audi has integrated advanced intelligent driving systems developed with Huawei, reflecting a broader push toward smart mobility solutions.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen is rapidly expanding its electrified portfolio, aiming to launch over 30 NEV models in China by 2029. BMW is enhancing its production network in Shenyang by incorporating artificial intelligence and robotics into manufacturing.
The growing cooperation comes amid strong expansion in China’s NEV sector, driven by rising demand and technological innovation. Industry analysts view Sino-German automotive collaboration as a key driver of global electric mobility, combining German engineering expertise with China’s scale and digital capabilities to shape the future of the automotive industry.
