Gaza, January 15 — Hamas has reaffirmed its readiness to hand over administration of the Gaza Strip to a newly formed Palestinian technocratic committee and to facilitate its work, calling the move a positive step toward stability and reconstruction.
In a statement, senior Hamas official Basem Naim said the movement welcomed the committee’s formation and is prepared to transfer administrative responsibilities to what he described as a national transitional body. He said the initiative supports efforts to consolidate the ceasefire, prevent a return to conflict, ease Gaza’s severe humanitarian crisis, and create conditions for reconstruction.
Naim added that the committee should mark the start of a broader Palestinian political process aimed at achieving national unity, ending internal divisions, and eventually transforming the temporary body into a national unity government reflecting Palestinian political and territorial cohesion.
Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye announced on Wednesday the formation of the Palestinian technocratic committee to oversee Gaza’s administration. A source close to the committee told Xinhua it will comprise 15 members, with names agreed upon by Palestinian factions as well as the United States and Israel.
Meanwhile, the United States announced the launch of the second phase of the Gaza peace process, shifting focus from a ceasefire to demilitarization, technocratic governance and reconstruction, according to U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff.
