HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani presents Palestinian An-Najah National University with the Winners’ title for the 7th International Universities Debating Championship

University of Arts and Sciences in Lebanon secures second place in the native Arabic speakers’ category followed by Georgetown University in Qatar

Boğaziçi University from Türkiye wins championship title in the non-native Arabic speakers’ category

The 7th International Universities Debating Championship concluded with An-Najah National University from Palestine winning first place for the first time. Second and third places were awarded to the University of Arts and Sciences in Lebanon and Georgetown University in Qatar, respectively. The closing ceremony, held at the Qatar National Convention Centre, was attended by dignitaries including HE Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, and Palestinian Ambassador to Qatar, HE Mounir Ghannam.

HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani honored the top three speakers: Moza Khaled Al-Hajri (Georgetown University in Qatar), Abdullah Jassim Al-Kubaisi (Qatar University), and Rawan Muhammad Harshi (University of Arts and Sciences in Lebanon). Abeer Al Khalifa, President of Pre-University Education at Qatar Foundation, honored the top speakers in the non-native Arabic speakers’ category, with the University of Boğaziçi from Türkiye winning the award.

Dr. Hayat Abdullah Marafi, Executive Director of QatarDebate Center, expressed pride in the students’ skills and highlighted the Palestinian team’s symbolic presence despite their inability to participate. She thanked Qatar Foundation and partners for their support and emphasized the importance of dialogue and debate.

HE Mounir Ghannam celebrated the success of the Palestinian team, noting the event as a milestone in the history of debating and the significant contribution of Arab communities to science and culture. He praised An-Najah National University’s victory as a testament to Palestinian resilience and excellence.

Final Debate
The final debate, held under the motion “This house, as a young Muslim, would migrate to the West,” featured intense arguments. Farah Iyad Atatari of the Palestinian team expressed joy over their win, highlighting the enriching experience and global solidarity among youth.

Rawan Muhammad Harshi from the University of Arts and Sciences in Lebanon also shared her excitement about reaching the finals and representing Lebanon.

Awards
Native Arabic Speakers’ category:

  • First Place: An-Najah National University, Palestine
  • Second Place: University of Arts and Sciences in Lebanon
  • Third Place: Georgetown University in Qatar

Non-native Arabic Speakers’ Category:

  • First Place: Boğaziçi University, Türkiye

Top Arabic Speakers:

  1. Moza Khaled Al-Hajri (Georgetown University in Qatar)
  2. Abdullah Jassim Al Kubaisi (Qatar University)
  3. Rawan Muhammad Harshi (University of Arts and Sciences in Lebanon)

Non-Native Arabic Speakers:

  1. Imran bin Salman (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia)
  2. Daniel Khan Shahiran Ziri (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia)

The event’s success was attributed to the support from organizing partners including the Doha Forum, Al Jazeera Media Institute, and the Doha International Family Institute.
