SANAA, Aug. 11: Yemen’s Houthi group launched fresh drone and missile attacks on government-held areas in Taiz and Marib provinces early Tuesday, according to Yemeni government forces.
Several explosions were reported in Mocha, a government-held coastal city in southwestern Taiz, where officials said ballistic missiles targeted the city and its port.
Government air defenses engaged successive waves of drones over Mocha and nearby areas along the western coast. Several drones, including one reportedly carrying explosives, were intercepted, while military teams examined recovered wreckage.
Explosions were also reported in Marib city, where drones targeted government-held areas. Officials said the blasts were believed to have resulted from air defenses intercepting incoming drones.
The Houthis did not immediately comment on the latest attacks. No casualties or damage had been reported at the time of publication.
The attacks followed a recent escalation in fighting across Yemen, including a major wave of missile and drone strikes on Mocha and surrounding areas on Sunday that reportedly killed eight people and injured 32.
Yemen has remained embroiled in conflict since the Houthis seized large parts of the north, including Sanaa, in late 2014. A Saudi-led coalition intervened the following year in support of the internationally recognized government.
