In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the ruling National Conference has decided to intensify its campaign for the restoration of statehood and plans to hold a protest in New Delhi on the opening day of India’s upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, senior party leader and minister Javed Rana said on Wednesday.
According to a report received from across the Line of Control (LoC), the party leadership made the decision during a review meeting chaired by “Chief Minister” Omar Abdullah at Dachigam, where legislators discussed governance, development, and political issues, including the statehood demand.
Rana said the campaign would now be expanded beyond the territory and taken to the national capital to press the Indian government to fulfil its earlier commitments regarding restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the protest would be organized on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament and described restoration of statehood as the party’s foremost political demand.
“The National Conference will hold a protest in New Delhi on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. We will continue to pursue the restoration of statehood through democratic means,” Rana said.
He added that the party would reach out to political parties across Jammu and Kashmir and invite them to join the protest, emphasizing that the issue concerns all residents of the region and goes beyond party lines.
Rana said the leadership believes the time is right for a renewed political push on the issue and expressed hope that broader participation would strengthen the demand for restoration of statehood.
The report further stated that discussions during the meeting also included administrative performance and development works in the region under Indian administration.
Party leaders said the decision reflects a coordinated political strategy aimed at increasing pressure on New Delhi through peaceful and democratic protest action.
