Tehran, September 17 – Iran has executed a man convicted of providing intelligence to Israel’s Mossad, the judiciary’s Mizan news agency reported Wednesday.
The man, identified as Babak Shahbazi, was hanged after judicial proceedings confirmed his conviction. According to Mizan, Shahbazi had been found guilty of intelligence and security cooperation with Israel by transferring sensitive information about Iranian data centers in exchange for money and the promise of foreign citizenship.
Judicial sources said Shahbazi worked as a contractor designing and installing industrial cooling systems for companies linked to Iran’s telecommunications, military, and security organizations. Through this access, he allegedly collected and sold classified data to Mossad, compromising sensitive national infrastructure.
The Iranian judiciary emphasized that his conviction was the result of a legal process, underscoring that espionage cases tied to foreign intelligence services will be met with the “strictest legal consequences.” Officials said such actions not only threaten national security but also undermine regional stability.
The report comes amid heightened regional tensions and repeated warnings by Tehran that it will confront espionage operations linked to Israel and other adversarial states. Iranian authorities have previously accused Israel of orchestrating sabotage, cyberattacks, and targeted assassinations inside the country.
With Shahbazi’s execution, the judiciary reiterated its determination to hold accountable anyone found guilty of espionage or collaboration with hostile intelligence services.
