Iran has confirmed it is reviewing a response from the United States to its earlier proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, signaling cautious diplomatic movement amid persistent tensions.
Speaking at a weekly press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran had received Washington’s reply to its 14-point peace proposal and is currently assessing its contents. He added that Iran would convey its official position through Pakistani mediation once a final decision is reached.
Baqaei criticized what he described as “excessive and unreasonable demands” from the US side, noting that such positions complicate efforts to move forward swiftly. He also dismissed media reports on negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program as speculative and premature.
According to the spokesman, Iran’s immediate priority remains achieving a complete end to hostilities. He emphasized that discussions on broader issues, including nuclear matters, would only follow once the war concludes and a clearer direction is defined.
The conflict escalated after US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February, prompting retaliatory actions by Tehran against Israel and US-aligned targets in the Gulf region. The situation further intensified with disruptions to maritime activity, including restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Efforts to broker peace have so far made limited progress. A temporary ceasefire arranged through Pakistan in early April was followed by direct talks in Islamabad, but no lasting agreement was reached. The ceasefire was later extended without a fixed timeline.
