Tehran, June 21 – Iran said Sunday that talks with the United States in Switzerland are focused on implementing the June 18 memorandum of understanding, including ending hostilities, easing sanctions, and releasing frozen Iranian assets.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said negotiations on a final agreement cannot begin until key provisions of the memorandum are implemented, particularly Article 1, which calls for ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon.
Baqaei said Sunday’s discussions reviewed implementation of the ceasefire provisions, US waivers to facilitate Iranian oil exports, and measures for releasing frozen Iranian assets.
The first round of four-party talks involving Iran and the US, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan, concluded Sunday in Switzerland, according to Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency, citing a source familiar with the negotiations.
Mediators Qatar and Pakistan emphasized continued diplomatic engagement to sustain regional stability and prevent further escalation in Middle East region.
