Tehran, June 17 – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday called for international support for the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States aimed at ending the war.
In a phone call, Araghchi briefed Lavrov on the agreement, stressing the need for the United States to fully implement its provisions. He also underlined the importance of halting Israel’s “aggressions” against Lebanon.
According to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov welcomed the finalization of the MoU and expressed Russia’s support for its implementation.
Both ministers urged the international community and the United Nations Security Council to back the agreement, emphasizing diplomatic cooperation among regional countries to ensure peace and stability.
They also discussed bilateral relations and other regional issues of mutual interest.
The United States, Pakistan, and Iran announced earlier this week that the MoU had been finalized after weeks of negotiations, with formal signing expected in Switzerland on Friday.
The agreement follows months of conflict after joint strikes by Israel and the United States on Iranian territory in late February, followed by Iranian missile and drone responses targeting Israeli and US assets in the region.
