Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a ceasefire that will take effect at 4:00 p.m. local time (1300 GMT) on Friday, according to a senior US official. The official confirmed the agreement but did not provide further details.
The ceasefire follows a sharp escalation in violence. Lebanese sources reported that at least 31 people were killed and several others injured in Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon on Friday. Meanwhile, four Israeli soldiers were killed in a Hezbollah attack in southern Lebanon.
The development comes two days after US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian electronically signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, an agreement aimed at ending the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, and halting Israeli military operations in Lebanon.
Official Lebanese figures indicate that since March 2, Israel’s military campaign has killed 3,912 people, injured 11,873 others and displaced more than one million residents.
Israel continues to maintain a military presence in parts of southern Lebanon, including areas occupied for decades and territories entered during the latest conflict, during which Israeli forces advanced more than 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory.
