Israeli military said Wednesday it carried out a new wave of airstrikes across Lebanon, targeting what it described as Hezbollah-linked sites amid escalating cross-border tensions.
The strikes followed new Israeli evacuation warnings for residents in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, urging civilians to move at least 1,000 meters away ahead of further operations. Earlier strikes reportedly killed at least four people.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, airstrikes that began Tuesday and continued into Wednesday killed Ali Qassem Ahmad, head of the Zellaya municipality, along with three family members in the western Bekaa region. Three others were injured.
The Israeli military said it struck about 25 sites in Lebanon over the past 24 hours, claiming they were used by Hezbollah for military purposes, including infrastructure and operational facilities.
In response, Hezbollah said it launched explosive drones and rockets toward Israeli positions in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military reported drone impacts near its troops, causing one moderate and one light injury.
Hezbollah said it targeted Israeli forces in Al-Taybeh and near Al-Bayada with artillery fire, claiming direct hits. It said the attacks were in response to Israeli violations of a fragile ceasefire that took effect last month.
Cross-border hostilities have intensified, raising concerns over a broader escalation along the Lebanon-Israel frontier.
