ROME, April 15: A large majority of Italians hold negative views of US President Donald Trump’s handling of the Iran conflict, according to a new survey released Wednesday.
The Youtrend poll conducted for Sky TG24 found that 79 percent of Italians disapprove of Trump’s management of the US-Iran war, reflecting broad criticism across the country’s political spectrum.
Among respondents expressing negative views, 76 percent were center-right voters, 91 percent center-left supporters, and 89 percent backers of other political parties.
The findings indicate widespread concern in Italy over Washington’s approach to the conflict, despite political differences among voters.
The joint US-Israeli war with Iran reportedly left around 3,300 people dead and displaced hundreds of thousands in Iran, while 13 US servicemen were killed and hundreds more wounded during the 39-day conflict that began on Feb. 28.
The United States and Iran held direct talks in Islamabad over the weekend, but negotiations ended without an agreement. The talks followed a two-week ceasefire announced earlier this month.
President Trump later announced a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which took effect Monday.
