TOKYO, July 23: Japan’s ruling coalition has expressed concern over declining public support for Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s cabinet, according to recent media opinion polls.
A Jiji Press survey released last week showed the cabinet’s approval rating at 49 percent, down 5.3 percentage points from June. Another Mainichi Shimbun poll showed support falling 10 percentage points from the previous month to 41 percent, while disapproval increased to 44 percent.
Jiji Press reported that a cabinet minister linked the decline to public concerns over the revision of the Imperial House Law and criticism of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and its coalition partner, the Japan Innovation Party, over parliamentary handling.
The report said the continued fall in approval ratings has raised concerns among ruling bloc members ahead of future political challenges.
The surveys reflect growing pressure on the government over policy decisions and parliamentary management.
The ruling coalition has yet to announce major changes in response to the declining ratings, according to the report.
