TOKYO, July 27: Renowned Japanese mystery novelist Keigo Higashino has died at the age of 68 after battling colon cancer, Japan’s public broadcaster NHK reported.
Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1958, Higashino studied electrical engineering at Osaka Prefecture University before beginning his successful writing career. He gained recognition in 1985 after winning the Edogawa Rampo Prize for his debut novel “After School.”
Higashino later received the Mystery Writers of Japan Award in 1999 for “Naoko” and won the prestigious Naoki Prize in 2006 for “The Devotion of Suspect X.”
Considered one of Japan’s most influential contemporary mystery authors, Higashino published his 100th book in 2023. Japanese media reported that his works had sold more than 100 million copies domestically by that time.
His novels, known for their complex plots and psychological depth, have been translated and published in 41 countries and regions, earning him a wide international readership and lasting recognition in global literature.
