The Cultural Village Foundation – Katara inaugurated on Monday morning the exhibition “Qabasat” by Syrian visual artist Dr. Wassim Mohammad Nour Al Hamdo, in Hall No. (1), Building (47), in the presence of HE Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara.
The opening ceremony was also attended by HE Dr. Bilal Turkieh, Chargé d’Affaires of the Syrian Arab Republic Embassy in Qatar, along with several ambassadors, diplomats, and cultural figures.
The exhibition presents a collection of artworks inspired by the aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy, reinterpreting elements of Arab and Islamic culture through a contemporary artistic vision that blends authenticity with innovation.
In his remarks, Dr. Bilal Turkieh said the displayed works reflect values of beauty, knowledge, and identity rooted in Arab and Islamic heritage. He praised the artist’s ability to merge traditional Arabic calligraphy with modern artistic expression, offering a creative experience that conveys cultural and human values in innovative visual forms.
He added that the exhibition holds special significance as a distinguished Syrian cultural presence in Qatar, reflecting the deep fraternal relations between the two countries and the growing cultural cooperation that strengthens mutual understanding between peoples.
For his part, Dr. Wassim Al Hamdo said “Qabasat” represents an important milestone in his artistic journey and follows several international exhibitions. He highlighted Katara’s status as a leading cultural hub that supports creativity and dialogue among civilizations, expressing his pleasure in presenting his work to an audience appreciative of art and culture.
He explained that his artistic approach focuses on presenting Arabic calligraphy in a personal style inspired by his passion for the art form, with works featuring letter-based compositions and architectural influences.
Most pieces were created using ink techniques combined with diverse artistic materials, while some works incorporate acrylic colors, adding visual depth and new experimental dimensions.
The exhibition will run until June 29, welcoming visitors interested in Arabic calligraphy and contemporary visual art.
