The Kremlin said Thursday that it sees a dual approach in the United States’ position on the Ukraine conflict, with Washington continuing military support for Kyiv while also maintaining efforts toward a possible peace process.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia is aware of ongoing U.S. arms and military technology supplies to Ukraine and has no illusions about that policy. However, he noted that Moscow considers the U.S. commitment to dialogue and negotiations different from the approach of some European countries involved in the conflict.
Peskov criticized the belief that military pressure and escalation could help achieve a peaceful settlement, saying increased tensions would not contribute to resolving the crisis.
He warned that continued Ukrainian strikes on Russian infrastructure could lead Moscow to expand security measures and establish a larger buffer zone.
Commenting on planned talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, Peskov said the call did not take place as scheduled, apparently due to Trump’s busy agenda following meetings in Ankara.
He added that Putin remains open to dialogue and that both leaders have maintained constructive communication despite existing differences.
