PARIS, June 1 — French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday that France is ready to support diplomatic efforts toward an agreement between the United States and Iran.
Macron said a multinational maritime escort mission, co-led by France and Britain, is prepared to deploy once an agreement is reached, aiming to secure shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz.
He made the remarks on X after a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday, noting he welcomed Trump’s “determined efforts” to reach an agreement with Tehran.
Macron called the initiative a “unique opportunity” to build a regional security framework involving key stakeholders for long-term stability in the Middle East.
He said France is ready to support the efforts and contribute through the maritime mission established with Britain and partners.
Macron added France is prepared to provide expertise in negotiations, particularly on nuclear aspects of any U.S.-Iran agreement.
On Lebanon, he stressed maintaining a ceasefire and supporting national institutions, while welcoming U.S. commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He reaffirmed that coordinated diplomacy remains essential for reducing tensions and achieving lasting regional peace.
