Malian Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga has said that recent coordinated terrorist attacks across the country were aimed at seizing power and disrupting the ongoing political transition.
Speaking in Bamako, Maïga stated that the assaults carried out in multiple cities were not isolated incidents but part of a broader attempt to dismantle state institutions and undermine national stability. The attacks resulted in the killing of Defense Minister Sadio Camara, along with several civilian and military casualties, while others were injured.
He noted that the attackers sought to spread fear, weaken public confidence, and fracture national unity, but stressed that these objectives had failed. According to the prime minister, Malian security forces responded decisively under the leadership of the transitional authorities, neutralizing a significant number of militants.
Maïga emphasized that the evolving nature of such threats requires constant adaptation of security strategies, adding that lessons from the latest attacks would guide further strengthening of national defense measures.
The government has declared a two-day national mourning period to honor the victims, particularly Defense Minister Camara, whose death marks a significant loss for the country.
