MIRPUR (AJK), July 29: The Mirpur district administration on Wednesday rejected social media reports regarding the recent unrest, terming claims about the killing of a mosque imam, imposition of curfew and civilian deaths as false and baseless.
In an official statement, the administration spokesperson clarified that reports claiming Imam Bilal Mosque’s prayer leader Inayatullah, a resident of Kharian, was killed inside the mosque had no connection with reality.
The spokesperson also denied reports suggesting that a curfew had been imposed in Mirpur, saying the city remained open and the law and order situation was under control.
Referring to Tuesday’s clashes between police and protesters at different locations in Mirpur, the spokesperson said no woman or child was killed in the incidents, contrary to rumours circulating on social media. He confirmed that three people lost their lives during the violence.
The administration said normalcy had returned to the city, with markets open, traffic moving smoothly and residents continuing their routine activities without disruption.
The spokesperson urged citizens to avoid spreading unverified information and rely only on official sources for updates. He appealed to residents to play a responsible role in maintaining peace, social harmony and respect for the rule of law by verifying information before sharing it on social media.
The administration reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining peace across the district.
