MIRPUR (AJK), May 30 — A total of 1,404 patients were provided timely and quality medical treatment at DHQ Teaching Hospital Mirpur during the three-day Eid-ul-Adha holidays, according to hospital officials.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Ijaz Ahmed Raja said all emergency departments remained fully functional under a special management plan throughout the Eid holidays, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services for the public during peak festive days.
He said doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and rescue teams remained on duty round the clock and provided continuous emergency care to patients from May 26 to May 28 without interruption.
According to hospital data, 1,083 patients were treated in Accident and Emergency, 177 in Cardiology Emergency, 53 in Gynaecology Emergency, and 91 children in Paediatric Emergency during the period.
On the first day of Eid, 442 patients were treated, followed by 466 on the second day and 496 on the third day, reflecting a steady rise in patient inflow across all emergency departments.
The hospital also reported 110 road traffic accident cases treated during the holidays. A total of 96 patients were admitted for further treatment, while only one critical patient was referred outside Mirpur due to advanced care requirements. Seven referred cases from other districts were successfully managed on arrival at the facility.
Officials confirmed that 11 emergency surgeries were performed during the period, reflecting the hospital’s operational readiness. Only one death was reported over the three days.
Two complaints regarding staff behavior were received and resolved promptly on the spot, the administration said, ensuring patient satisfaction and service continuity.
Dr. Raja praised the dedication of hospital staff, saying Eid duty reflected strong professional commitment, teamwork, and humanitarian service under pressure.
He said the hospital aims to further improve emergency response systems, staffing efficiency, and healthcare facilities to ensure better public service delivery in the future.
Civil society representatives also appreciated the hospital’s performance, saying timely treatment, efficient emergency services, and positive staff behavior provided relief and confidence to patients and families during the Eid holidays.
