MIRPUR (AJK), July 19: A large gathering in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, marked Kashmir Accession Day with a special ceremony attended by people from different segments of civil society and government employees.
The event, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mirpur Chaudhry Sajid Aslam, paid tribute to the leaders of the Kashmir freedom movement who adopted the historic Resolution of Accession to Pakistan on July 19, 1947.
Addressing the participants, the Deputy Commissioner said the day reminds people of the sacrifices and efforts of those who supported the Kashmir movement. He noted that representatives of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference had adopted the resolution in Srinagar, reflecting the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Chaudhry Sajid Aslam said the people of Kashmir have maintained close ties with Pakistan and reiterated their commitment to their political aspirations. He expressed appreciation for the support extended by Pakistan’s leadership and people.
He also called upon the international community, including the United Nations, to address the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and ensure attention to reported human rights concerns.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the people of Kashmir would continue their peaceful struggle for their stated objectives. He expressed hope for a future where the people of the region could live with peace and dignity.
The ceremony was attended by Assistant Commissioner Mian Hissam Sajid, Revenue Officer Raja Ayaz Ahmad, Tehsildar Mirpur Imran Yousaf, Deputy Director Liberation Cell Sardar Azeem Sarwar, representatives of traders, employees’ associations, political leaders, journalists and a large number of citizens.
The event concluded with prayers for peace, prosperity, and the success of the Kashmir movement.
