Myanmar, China Celebrate Tea Day Cultural Friendship

YANGON, May 22 The fragrance of tea and traditional music filled the National Museum of Myanmar in Yangon as International Tea Day was marked through culture and shared heritage.
The China-Myanmar Cultural Salon of Tea for Harmony 2026 was co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy and the Myanmar Tea Association, highlighting tea’s role in connecting communities.
Guests sampled iced lemon tea, Myanmar’s pickled tea leaf salad and other varieties, alongside music, dance and tea ceremonies blending both cultures.
Myanmar Tea Association President U Ye Htut said the event promoted cultural exchange and cooperation in tea production and tradition while showcasing Myanmar’s tea heritage.
Exhibitor U Kar Ka Company, founded in 1928, presented tea-based snacks and traditional products.
Manager Nyan Min Aung said tea remains deeply rooted in Myanmar culture and history.
Shwe Panlaw Company Managing Director U Thein Htwe said both countries share strong tea traditions, adding that tasting sessions could open future trade opportunities.
International Tea Day, observed on May 21, highlights tea’s cultural and economic importance under the 2026 theme “Sustaining Tea, Supporting Communities.”
