BRUSSELS, Aug. 12: NATO allies on Wednesday condemned recent Russian airspace violations over Poland and Romania, describing the incidents as dangerous and unacceptable while reaffirming their commitment to defending allied territory.
The North Atlantic Council met in Brussels to discuss the violations and recent drone incidents, expressing full solidarity with Poland and Romania, NATO said in a statement.
The alliance held Russia fully responsible for the violations, saying they demonstrated Moscow’s increasing tolerance for risk and created unnecessary dangers.
NATO allies stressed their unity and determination to protect the alliance, while commending the rapid response by national and NATO authorities.
The alliance said it would continue strengthening integrated air and missile defenses, particularly along its eastern flank stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea.
NATO also reaffirmed its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, freedom and territorial integrity and efforts toward achieving peace.
The allies said Russian airspace violations and other irresponsible actions would not weaken their commitment to supporting Ukraine or their resolve to deter and defend against aggression.
