From Zero to Champions: Nepal Wins the Community Friendly Women’s Volleyball Game 2026
DOHA, QATAR — The Nepali Women’s Volleyball Team has created history by winning the Community Friendly Women’s Volleyball Game 2026, organized by the Workers Support and Insurance Fund (WISF) in Qatar. The tournament featured 10 teams from different countries and communities: Nepal, Philippines ‘A’, Philippines ‘B’, Philippines ‘C’, Qatar Foundation, Tunisia, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia and Cameroon.
The competition was held at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena, Al Sadd Sports Club, Doha, bringing together women volleyball players from diverse nationalities in a celebration of sport, friendship and community. Representing the NRNA NCC Qatar Sports Department, the Nepali team defeated Philippines ‘B’ in the final in straight sets, 25–23, 25–21 and 25–10, to lift the championship trophy. Nepal had earlier defeated Philippines ‘A’ in the semifinal to secure its place in the final.
The achievement is particularly remarkable because the team was formed only weeks before the tournament. There was previously no organized Nepali women’s volleyball team in Qatar. NRNA NCC Qatar Sports Department Coordinator Rajan Chapagain led the player-search and coordination campaign, bringing together Nepali women players from across Qatar through social media, phone contacts and community organizations. Despite limited preparation time, the players trained regularly while managing their jobs and personal responsibilities. The team received valuable financial, logistical and moral support from NRNA NCC Qatar, Nepali community organizations, businesses, social workers, sports enthusiasts and individual well-wishers. Under the captaincy of Koseli Magar and the guidance of coach Sagar Bk, the team developed strong coordination, confidence, and determination and ultimately emerged as champions.
Nepali players also achieved outstanding individual honors. Koseli Magar was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), while Pushpa Shahi won the Best Spiker award. The Nepali team also won the Best Uniform / Best Dress Code award, receiving an additional QAR 2,000 cash prize. Along with this award, the team received the championship trophy, medals, and a QAR 5,000 championship cash prize. Philippines ‘B’ finished second and Tunisia third, with congratulations extended to all participating teams and players for their excellent performances and sportsmanship.
Nearly 1,000 Nepali supporters gathered at the venue for the final. The presence of NRNA NCC Qatar leaders, community representatives, social workers, organizations, and enthusiastic supporters turned the championship into an emotional and proud moment for Nepalis in Qatar. Victory is more than a sporting achievement. It demonstrates the talent, courage, discipline, unity, and determination of Nepali women living abroad and sends a strong message that, with opportunity and support, Nepali athletes can successfully compete on the international stage. What began only weeks earlier as an effort to build a team from almost nothing has now become a historic success—a remarkable journey “From Zero to Champions.”Congratulations to the players, coach, management team, supporters, and everyone who contributed to this historic achievement. 🇳🇵🏆
