Islamabad: Pakistan on Thursday expressed optimism that a settlement between the United States and Iran could be reached soon amid ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions and reviving stalled negotiations.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Andrabi, Islamabad would welcome any agreement reached between Washington and Tehran, regardless of the venue. He said Pakistan would consider it an honor if the understanding were finalized in Islamabad.
Speaking to reporters, Andrabi declined to confirm reports regarding a possible memorandum of understanding between the two countries following international media claims that both sides are moving closer to an initial agreement.
Government sources said Pakistan is expecting to host a second round of talks between the US and Iran next week as efforts continue to end the conflict. Sources also indicated that both countries may reach a preliminary understanding before US President Donald Trump’s expected visit to China later this month.
Pakistan previously hosted the first round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran on April 11-12. Although the discussions did not produce a final agreement, they followed a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan on April 8, which was later extended by President Trump.
Regional observers view the renewed diplomatic engagement as an important step toward de-escalation, dialogue, and long-term regional stability.
