GENEVA – Special Report
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday that the signing ceremony of a US–Iran agreement aimed at ending a three-month conflict will be held in Geneva on June 19 and will be hosted by Pakistan.
Addressing the National Assembly, the prime minister said the agreement marks a historic step toward peace and reflects sustained diplomatic efforts by all sides.
He said the United States and Iran have agreed on a framework to end hostilities, ease restrictions, and reopen key regional routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, marking a shift from confrontation toward dialogue and stability.
PM Shehbaz noted that Pakistan played an active mediating role throughout the crisis, including hosting initial talks in Islamabad in April, helping maintain dialogue even during periods of tension.
“The official ceremony will be held on June 19 in Geneva and will be hosted by Pakistan,” he said, congratulating the nation and the international community.
The prime minister thanked Pakistan’s political leadership, including Nawaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, for their support.
He praised the leadership of the United States and Iran for restraint and dialogue, and acknowledged diplomatic contributions from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, China, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.
PM Shehbaz appreciated Field Marshal Asim Munir for helping sustain momentum during difficult phases of negotiations. He also commended Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif called it a historic diplomatic achievement, praising Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue.
The agreement is described as a major step toward regional de-escalation and renewed international cooperation.
