Islamabad, June 23 (QNA) – Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday expressed confidence that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Iran and the United States would evolve into a long-term agreement after 60 days of technical-level dialogue, helping ensure peace and stability regionally and globally.
He said Pakistan has made sincere efforts to facilitate dialogue and reconciliation between both sides, addressing the National Assembly and noting that technical-level talks will continue over the next 60 days.
During Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Islamabad, the Prime Minister said the two sides will discuss opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple fields, alongside reviewing ongoing diplomatic engagement following the US-Iran MoU and other regional and international developments of mutual interest.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar said Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts helped bring the United States and Iran to the negotiating table despite recent regional escalations that threatened to derail the process.
He said talks held in Switzerland marked the second phase of the diplomatic process, involving three technical working groups focusing on nuclear issues, sanctions, unfreezing of assets, and the situation in Lebanon.
Following the Burgenstock round, the MoU was described as a roadmap for a final agreement within 60 days, paving the way for the immediate start of technical negotiations.
US Vice President JD Vance said the talks laid a foundation for a successful agreement to end the war.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi welcomed the progress but said the new deconfliction cell would be the first test of the process.
