TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Sunday that Iran is facing a “full-scale economic, military and security war,” while pledging that his government will continue working to overcome difficulties.
“We are in a full-scale economic, military and security war,” Pezeshkian said in a televised speech carried by state-run IRNA news agency.
He acknowledged economic problems, saying the government is “ashamed” of the difficulties facing the country.
Pezeshkian criticized US President Donald Trump’s threats of severe sanctions, saying Iran remains “standing firm” and working to serve its people despite what he described as an “unequal war.”
He said Iran had resisted efforts aimed at weakening the country, adding that its resistance, solidarity and cohesion had surprised the world.
The president said Tehran is working “with all our might” to prevent divisions, conflicts and personal interests from affecting national unity.
Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding in June through Pakistani and Qatari mediation, ending hostilities that began in February and agreeing to pursue negotiations toward a final agreement.
However, talks have since stalled over disagreements concerning implementation of the memorandum and navigation arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil and gas shipments.
