Local police in Mirpur have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against six individuals, including five police officials and a civilian, in connection with an alleged case of highhandedness involving a medical college student in the Sector F-2 area.
According to police officials, the case has been filed under sections 337-F/6, 337-A, 341, and 427 of the Azad Penal Code at Thothal Police Station following an incident that took place on May 12 in a posh residential area of Mirpur.
Senior Superintendent of Police Mirpur Khurram Iqbal confirmed the development, stating that the accused include already dismissed Sub-Inspector Shabbir Ahmed, Constable Imran Khan (No. 110), Constable Ghulam Abbas (No. 240), Constable Zubair Ahmed (No. 314, Rangers Police), a suspended constable Faheem posted at Thothal Police Station, and a civilian identified as Shujah.
Police sources said the action was taken following directives from Deputy Inspector General of Police Mirpur Kamran Ali and SSP Khurram Iqbal, after a written complaint from the victim’s family and a medical report issued by the District Headquarters Hospital.
Authorities emphasized that no individual involved in the incident would be spared if found guilty, regardless of rank or position. Officials also confirmed that four police personnel were dismissed from service under relevant provisions of the Efficiency and Discipline (E&D) Act, 1992, while one constable had already been suspended earlier.
The incident reportedly occurred when a police vehicle pursued a car in Sector F-2, resulting in a road accident. Following the collision, police personnel allegedly removed a passenger—identified as a medical college student—from the vehicle and assaulted him publicly, according to a viral video circulating on social media.
An internal inquiry found that the officers failed to justify their actions and exceeded their lawful authority. The report stated that if the individuals were wanted in any case, due legal procedure should have been followed instead of physical force in a public setting.
Civil society groups had earlier warned of protests if action was not taken within 24 hours. Police have stated that further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
