VATICAN CITY, August 16: Pope Leo XIV on Sunday renewed his call for an end to violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and urged the international community to advance efforts toward a two-state solution.
Speaking after the weekly Angelus prayer, the pontiff called for an end to repeated acts of violence against the Palestinian population in the West Bank, according to Vatican News.
Leo also appealed to the international community to ensure progress toward a two-state solution, describing it as essential for achieving a just and lasting peace.
The Vatican has consistently supported a two-state solution based on secure and internationally recognized borders as a viable path toward lasting peace between Palestine and Israel.
The Pope also marked the opening of the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, southern Italy, expressing hope that the sporting event would become a symbol of peace and fraternity among the peoples of the Mediterranean region and beyond.
Athletes from countries across Africa, Asia and Europe bordering the Mediterranean are participating in the Games.
