MIRPUR ( AJK): July 22; President of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) (Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chapter) Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin, has written an important letter to the Chief Election Commissioner of AJK, urging the immediate restoration of internet services across the region ahead of the upcoming elections.
In his letter, Yasin expressed concern that the suspension of internet services is seriously affecting election campaigns and creating difficulties for both political parties and voters. He emphasized that the timely dissemination of accurate information to the electorate is essential, warning that the lack of internet access could hinder a transparent electoral process.
The PPP AJK president noted that internet shutdowns increase the risk of misinformation and rumours spreading unchecked, which could negatively impact the election environment. He stressed that safeguarding voters’ right to information is a fundamental responsibility of the Election Commission and called for effective measures in this regard.
Yasin further stated that the uninterrupted continuation of election campaigning requires the immediate restoration of internet services. He urged the Chief Election Commissioner to take up the matter with the relevant authorities and ensure the prompt resumption of internet connectivity so that all political parties and candidates can compete on an equal footing.
He also underlined that the availability of internet services is crucial for the conduct of free, fair and transparent elections, and called for practical and urgent steps to resolve the issue without delay.
