PPP, JUI enter Electoral Alliance for AJK General Elections – 2026

MIRPUR, June 28
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chapter and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) AJK on Sunday formally announced an electoral alliance for the upcoming July 27 Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Elections 2026.
The announcement was made during a joint press conference addressed by PPP AJK President Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin and JUI AJK chief Maulana Saeed Yousaf in Islamabad on Sunday. The event was attended by AJK Minister Mian Abdul Waheed, PPP candidate and minister Nabeela Ayub, Political Assistant Syed Azadar Hussain Kazmi, and other senior party leaders.
Under the agreement, JUI candidates will contest as joint candidates of both parties in constituency LA-23 Sudhnoti/Plundri and LA-14 Western Bagh/Dhirkot. PPP candidates Nabeela Ayub and Zobia Khurshid will withdraw their nomination papers in line with the party’s decision. In other constituencies, JUI will fully support PPP candidates.
The leaders said JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari played a key role in facilitating the alliance.
Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin termed the development a significant moment in AJK political history, saying Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s politics of dialogue and understanding is widely respected. He expressed confidence that the alliance would strengthen both parties and benefit the region.
He reaffirmed PPP’s commitment to the Kashmir cause, saying the party has consistently raised the issue at national and international forums.
Maulana Saeed Yousaf said this was the first formal PPP-JUI alliance in AJK history. He said JUI workers would fully support PPP candidates in all other constituencies, while JUI candidates would be backed in the designated seats.
Senior Minister Mian Abdul Waheed called the alliance a reflection of political wisdom and mutual trust between the leadership of both parties. He expressed optimism that the partnership would lead to electoral success and the formation of the next government.
PPP candidate Nabeela Ayub said the alliance was based on mutual respect and trust and confirmed she would withdraw her nomination papers to support the joint candidate campaign.
