MIRPUR (AJK), May 25 – The Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto) Jammu and Kashmir chapter has urged an early and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue through what it described as Pakistan’s “successful diplomatic and peace-oriented foreign policy.”
In a statement issued while commenting on recent remarks by Dr. Farooq Abdullah, President of India’s National Conference in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), PPP (Shaheed Bhutto) AJK President Advisor Munir Hussain Chaudhry said Pakistan has consistently supported the resolution of all outstanding issues, including the core dispute of Kashmir, through meaningful dialogue.
He said that instead of confrontation, Pakistan has always advocated diplomacy, restraint, and engagement as the only viable path toward lasting peace in the region.
Munir Hussain Chaudhry further stated that tensions in the region have been aggravated by “provocative policies” and rhetoric from Indian leadership, particularly under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ideological influence of RSS-linked narratives, which he claimed have increased regional instability and the risk of conflict.
He also expressed support for recent remarks by Mehbooba Mufti, President of the Peoples Democratic Party in IIOJK, who advocated for the reopening of traditional and historical routes across Jammu and Kashmir to allow free movement, interaction, and trade among people of the divided region.
Recalling past developments, Chaudhry said that during the tenure of former President Pervez Musharraf, several cross-Line of Control routes were opened, including bus services that enabled families divided by the Line of Control to reconnect. He noted that initiatives related to trade, cultural exchange, student interaction, and civil society engagement had also been launched successfully during that period, which contributed to confidence-building between the two sides.
He alleged that after the August 5, 2019 decision by India regarding Jammu and Kashmir, the region has faced severe restrictions, describing the situation as one of fear, psychological pressure, and political suppression for the local population.
He added that the voices emerging from political leaders in IIOJK reflect the hardships being faced by the people and underline the need for urgent international attention to the situation.
Munir Hussain Chaudhry said that the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Pakistan stand in full solidarity with the people of IIOJK in their struggle for rights and dignity.
He further urged Pakistan’s leadership to intensify diplomatic efforts to ensure a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with international principles and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
He emphasized that political unity within Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir is essential to maintain consistent support for the people of IIOJK and to advance a peaceful settlement of the long-standing issue.
He concluded that sustainable peace in South Asia depends on resolving the Kashmir dispute through dialogue, justice, and adherence to the will of the Kashmiri people.
