MIRPUR (AJK), June 1 — Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto), Azad Jammu & Kashmir, has announced that it will participate in the upcoming general elections of the AJK Legislative Assembly, fielding candidates across all 45 constituencies, including 12 seats reserved for Jammu and Kashmir refugees based in Pakistan.
PPP (SB) Jammu and Kashmir President Munir Hussain Chaudhry Advocate, while speaking to reporters on Monday, said that the upcoming elections carry “exceptional importance” for the Kashmiri struggle for freedom, unity, democracy, stability, and development in the region.
He said the party, under the vision of its founding chairman Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, will contest the elections with full strength. He added that the party may consider electoral alliances with like-minded democratic and progressive forces, but will not align with “dictatorial regimes” or the Zardari-led PPP group.
Munir Chaudhry stated that the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) are aligned with what he described as a principled stance for freedom and self-determination, which he attributed to Field Marshal Asim Munir. He expressed confidence that the party’s position on the Kashmir issue would gain support.
The PPP (Shaheed Bhutto) AJK chapter also announced a 12-member parliamentary board to oversee candidate selection. The board will be headed by Advocate Mir Khalid Mehmood and includes representatives from all regions, including refugee constituencies, Neelam, Bagh, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Kotli, Bhimber, Sindhoti, Mirpur, and overseas Kashmiris in the UK.
The party said the board will recommend tickets strictly on merit, and final candidate names will be announced soon.
Applicants seeking party tickets have been directed to submit their applications to the party’s central secretariat at Syed Plaza near Chowk Shaheedan, Mian Muhammad Bakhsh Road, opposite the District Court Complex, Mirpur.
Munir Chaudhry said the parliamentary board will finalize nominations after reviewing applications, ensuring a transparent and merit-based process for the upcoming electoral contest in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
